Tricklock Training and Outreach
The Manoa Project: Teen Playwriting and Ensemble
Apprenticeship Program
The Manoa Project is a 3 phase training program for young artists age 14 - 18. The project begins with a statewide playwriting competition in which a winning play is chosen for development and performance. A runner-up play is also chosen for development and readings. The training/rehearsal phase is an intensive exploration of many different styles and processes of creation over the course of about 6 weeks, which culminates in the performance phase of the project: a weekend of performances of the featured play, staged readings and work demonstrations. The winning play then tours the state to allow participants a chance to share their talents and ideas with people from all walks of life. 2007 marks the fifth year of the Manoa Project and the program is under the leadership of Kevin R. Elder, Tricklock's Education Director.
