UNM Residency
On June 1, 2006 Tricklock Company became the first resident theater company at the University of New Mexico Department of Theatre and Dance thanks to funding and support from the State of New Mexico. As resident theater company, Tricklock contributes to the existing UNM training in theatre and dance and assists in preparing students at UNM for strong, successful careers in the entertainment industry. With so much theatre and film work coming to New Mexico this new creative union is both timely and exhilarating.
So, what does this mean to Tricklock? It is an increased opportunity for our resident artists to connect, share, teach, and grow as creators through more constant, direct and ongoing work with UNM students. The residency is made up of several components:
- A once-a-year, eight-week, full-credit course taught by Tricklock Company members in our styles of ensemble and solo work creation and performance
- Appearances in master classes as guest teachers
- Student internships (both undergraduate and graduate levels) with Tricklock in areas as diverse as: technical design and stage crews, artistic leadership and performance, and administrative/research (available for both credit and work study)
- Stronger links between the university and existing Tricklock programming (including the Revolutions International Theatre Festival and Manoa Project Teen Playwriting Competition and Summer Ensemble Apprenticeship)
- Tricklock Company members contributing to existing UNM programs (like the Words Afire! New Play Festival)
- Opportunities to collaborate on productions between the department and the company
- Opportunities to share venue spaces, materials and resources between UNM and Tricklock (including human resources like designers and crew)
