IT’S HELL IN HERE
Abigail Browde returns to New Mexico with IT’S HELL IN HERE a wildly inventive and physical performance of identity and infinity. Meet Max, the reclusive prodigy who is attempting to re-enter society – only to be pursued by the Secret Service. Through this hot pursuit, different realities are exposed, re-obscured, and revealed again and Max isn’t so sure of anything anymore – and in an age where guilt, blame, scandal, and a demand for “truth” electrify our airwaves, perhaps we shouldn’t be so sure, either. Based on the romantic absurdity of Parallel Universe Science and created at the intersection of “Letters to JD Salinger” (a collection of unanswered letters to the reclusive author), the interrogation tapes of Senator Larry Craig, the public apologies of A-Rod, Eliot Spitzer, and Michael Phelps, and Hollywood car chases, IT’S HELL IN HERE is a fiery meditation on the ever-shifting line between public and private information. Abigail Browde is a theater-artist originally from Albuquerque, who is now based in New York City. She began her theater work right in New Mexico, primarily with Paul Ford and Theater-in-the-Making and then later with Riverside Ensemble, which eventually became Tricklock. She left Albuquerque to attend the Experimental Theater program at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, and has, since her graduation, continually created all sorts of original performance. She was a resident artist at the University Settlement where she created “The Home, By Josephine,” a virtual house tour with pictures and songs. She is the co-creator of “What Happens To Isabella Poudrador” (isabellapoudrador.com), an episodic video series. Additionally, she is a core member of Witness Relocation Company and a contributor to SuperGroup, a Minneapolis-based performance group. Currently, she is a theater artist-in-residence at the Brooklyn Arts Exchange (BAX) where she developed “It’s Hell In Here” and where she is currently working on her new piece “Thanks For Nothin,” which will premiere later in 2010. “A sparky new playwright.” – Time Out NY Written and directed by Abigail Browde
