Created by two companies, in three different cities, over 10,000 miles, Nasze Miasto/Our City is Tricklock Company’s highly anticipated international collaboration. Partnering with Teatr Figur Krakow, Nasze Miasto/Our City combines elements of Tricklock Company’s imaginative physical theater and Teatr Figur’s extensive background in shadow theater and puppetry. The result is a show that is innovative and modern yet steeped in theatrical traditions. Nasze Miasto/Our City is the examination of the city and the individuals that give it life. Carried by both English and Polish language and dreamlike images that set the scene, the audience is transported through a cityscape of commonalities: the sound of a train, a stoplight and the shadow of a skyscraper. But around every corner, we see the small differences that make a city – and the people who inhabit it – inherently unique: the size of tomatoes, the shape of a stop sign, the sound of children speaking in a tongue foreign to our ears. In the fictional yet familiar city of Nasze Miasto/Our City, we experience the loneliness and strangeness of being foreign and the lovely wonder of discovery. This show about a city, the city, our city is simultaneously frightening and beautiful, serious and playful, full of light and hidden beneath the shadows. Nasze Miasto/Our City is a true collaboration between cities, culture, language and art.
