Is idealism still possible in the face of uncertain and violent times? World-renowned Double Edge Theater takes us on visually sweeping investigation of idealism and fanaticism, cultural wars and social decay, and individual honor and the nature of patriotic rebellion in the UnPOSSESSED, a stage adaptation of Miguel de Cervantes’ classic novel, “Don Quixote.” Developed in response to the events of September 11, 2001, and fusing Double Edge’s intimate performance method with live original music and circus arts, including aerial arts, large-scale puppetry, stilts, and commedia dell’arte, the UnPOSSESSED reinvents the classic character as he dreams of another world and pursues a mad quest in spite of a horrific and uncontrollable reality.

Founded in 1982, Double Edge Theatre’s mission is to create a “living culture” by developing the highest quality of original theatre performance, based on the long-term imaginative work of the actor and his/her interaction with the communities in which the work takes place, and by cultivating at its home in Ashfield, MA, where they train and develop work at ‘the Farm’ – a 100-acre former dairy farm turned permanent center of performance, training, research, and cultural exchange. The goal is to elevate the creation and understanding of artistic expression and cultural mutuality between artists and their communities. Double Edge is truly unique among American theatres – at 27 years old, it is one of the longest-running ensemble companies in the country, and one of the very few in the world led by a woman.

“[A] fervid, otherworldly production …” –NY Times
