With Bright Spines
With Bright Spines represents the current state of work on q-Staff’s fourth original performance. The group has been researching and developing material for over two years, taking three areas of departure for their query: cacti and other prickly plants of our desert locale, prickly personages (artists, dissidents, and mad-folk), and the 17th-century philosopher and heretic, Baruch Spinoza. In “Spines,” q-Staff utilizes disparate performance textures and forms to weave a rich, dimensional world in which to explore the phenomena of life at the edges of existence and endeavor, including elements of song and instrument, dance, speech and visual art. For over ten years, q-Staff has been living and working together as a group in Albuquerque, creating original performance as a nexus of discovery, transformation and dissemination of living art. The group owns and operates a neighborhood coffeehouse and an artists’ residence with eight dwellings as extensions of its core artwork at the q-Staff Theatre. Directed by Richard van Schouwen |
