In 2005 Earth Liberation Front member Chelsea Gerlach was arrested and sentenced to nine years in prison for her part in burning down the Two Elk Lodge at Colorado's Vail ski resort. Labeled an eco-terrorist and an arsonist, Gerlach's story is the inspiration for Waste Her, a rapid-fire new show from acclaimed solo performer Juli Hendren, winner of the May West Fest Writer's Grant. Directed by Summer Olsson, who also directed at the prestigious Prague Quadrennial in 2002, drives Waste Her forward at a heart-racing clip. Hendren, likened by Baltimore City Paper to Lucille Ball, is a masterful performer "with a gift for physical comedy." She fills each character with pathos and humor, revealing the hearts of two women as they discover how far they will go for what they believe in and why they are willing to go there. Waste Her is a thrilling and timely new play about the environment, eco-terrorism and the human heart.

Knit

Written by Kevin R. Elder
Performed by Alex Knight

Directed by Mark Chavez

See a workshop performance of Knit in the 2009 Excavations series!

A new comedic and poignant solo performance about the modern American's ability to emotionally detach from the people and community that surrounds him. This site-specific performance takes place in an apartment, and was inspired by Elder's work with Futur3 of Cologne, Germany. To maintain its intimacy and style of hyper-realistic story telling, Knit will only allow for an audience of twenty. Elder's original work has been seen all over the world, and his play Black River Falling was recently awarded "Best Live Performance of 2007" by the Weekly Alibi. Starring Alex Knight, Tricklock Company actor and member of Albuquerque's brilliant improv quartet The One-Night Stanleys, and directed by Mark Chavez, of the internationally-renown comic duo The Pajama Men.
